Inkanyiso Daycare Centre

Inkanyiso News

November 2009 : Trish Nel ...

The school has 30 registered children although they don't all come to school every day. This means that extensions are desperately required to meet the growing need.

There are 3 volunteers who come to the school each day to cook and clean and to take care of the children and also to offer them some stimulation. They do this happily for no financial reward and there is a feeling of love and contentment at the centre.

Thandi is tireless in her pursuit of financial support. She is fully committed to education of parents and the general public with regard to disabilities in general. She gives talks, attends workshops and is constantly improving her own qualifications to meet the requirements of running this centre efficiently.

My involvement with Inkanyiso is so inspiring to me and something that I love doing. I live in the UK now and I see and hear so much about the need to help people in Africa. Through all of this noise, I choose though to give my donations to Inkanyiso, because I know that it reaches them and I know that a very little goes very far there. I never want Thandi to not be able to do her amazing work in that township and want to do what I can to keep her going.

Today, we delivered the magnificent double door fridge financed by Mike O'Flynn (Exposed Solutions Ltd), in London.

Also the 4 piece lounge suite from Ann and Ian Morrow of Home Studio, a computer from Trish and Bomber Nel, a large quantity of sunlight washing soap and Easy Off Bang from the Round Table in Durban, chalk boards from Barrows, a large bag of rugby clothing from Craig Strachan, and more toys from our regular supporters, Ettienne and Hanna Nel.

Thandi is seated on the couch with a new member of the centre by the name of Mcedisi, an autistic child who is also an orphan. Some of you will recognise Nkanyiso, her deaf son after whom the school is named, seated on the right.

She and the helpers were overwhelmed with everything. The children were in their usual happy spirits. As usual Thandi is working tirelessly for the school, the local orphans, disabled adults and so many others. The vegetable garden has come on tremendously, with a wide variety of vegetables all looking very healthy.

Well, it is just amazing how the support for the Day Care Centre just keeps on coming in. Thanks to everyone yet again! I am attaching a couple of photos of the fun the children had when we delivered the toys which were donated by Mairi-anne's children.

All African Roots is a group of people with a common passion; making a difference to their local communities in South Africa and Zimbabwe. We have had a donation of an entire lounge suite from Ann and Ian Morrow of Swazulu Furnishers. It consists of 2 x 2 seaters and 2 x 1 seaters. I was able to show Thandi when she came in to see me last week and she was thrilled.

Both Leroy and Keri have obtained cash donations from the U K of 250 pounds and 400 rands respectively. This will really boost the bank account. At last the volunteers are receiving a small financial reward for their time, the electricity is being paid and there is a reasonable amount of food on a daily basis for the children.

Leroy is organising another boat party on the Thames on the 15 September for 300 people! So watch this space!

Thandi has been nominated by the people of Mpophomeni for an award through the Soul Magazine. As you know August is Women's month and she is very excited although she couldn't tell me what the title of the award is. I shall try to find out and pass it on. In the meantime please could you vote for her by sending the following sms to 33788. Natal No 5. We all know that she would be a worthy winner of any such award!
