All African Roots

All African Roots is a group of people with a common passion; making a difference to their local communities in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

All African Roots is a group of people with a common passion; making a difference to their local communities in South Africa and Zimbabwe. It all started with Leroy Nel who took on the challenge in 2006 of improving the lives of the kids at the Inkanyiso Daycare Centre. Initially he had plans of delivering school equipment and stationery to a rural North African school but wanted to take on something closer to home that would make a difference to his community. In a conversation with his Mom he learnt about Thandi and her daycare centre, Inkanyiso. From this the project has grown to involve not only his family, but many other people who have been inspired by one woman's dream to develop a self sustaining day care centre for disabled kids in the township of Mpophomeni.

In 2006 All African Roots organised a boat party on the Thames which raised £1, 700 and this kept Inkanyiso going for a year. In 2007 the project has grown to involve two other members andAll African Roots is a group of people with a common passion; making a difference to their local communities in South Africa and Zimbabwe. the charities they represent. Gayle Meikle bought in New Life Zimbabwe, a charity that aims to improve the lives of people suffering from HIV/Aids in her home town of Mutare, Zimbabwe. Tom Woodman joined the group to raise funds for the Zimbabwean Special Olympics team. On the 15th September 2007 we will be holding a boat party to raise money for these three causes.

The vision of All African Roots is that it will grow into a charity that supports worthy and under-funded community initiatives in Southern Africa. We welcome new members to the group and encourage you to get in touch with us if you would like to be a part of the team. We are currently applying for charity status in the UK with a broad remit of taking on new projects year on year. Watch this space.

All African Roots is a group of people with a common passion; making a difference to their local communities in South Africa and Zimbabwe. We are inspired by extraordinary people living in marginalised communities who dedicate their lives to good causes like Thandi Ntombela of Inkanyiso, Ramsome Muhlauko of New Life and Bonny Woodman of Special Olympics Zimbabwe.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Marianne Williamson.
